Do You Need a Website?

Are you a business? Do you offer a product or service of any kind? Do you want to stay in business?

If your answer to any of those questions is “Yes”, then you need a website.

So the question really then becomes:

Why do you need a website? And why do you need a good one?

There a few reasons and all of them more than “because everyone else has on”. Is this true? Yes. But just because everyone else does something or has something doesn’t mean you necessarily need to do or have that thing too.

In this case, it does. However, there are more important reasons to justify your need for an up-to-date, polished, quality website.

But don’t just take my word for it:

  • Studies show that between 70-80% of people research a company online BEFORE visiting the small business or making a purchase with them (Blue Corona)

That means that 70-80% of your potential customers are basing whether or not they want to do business with you off of your website.

That alone should justify your need for a website. You need a website that will effectively reach and grab the attention of your target audience. They’re searching, so be able to be found! 

Let’s say you do have a website. Is it up-to-date and user-friendly? Because if someone can’t find what they need on your site, or is confused by what they see, they’re going to bounce. A confused mind will always say no. I mean just look at the bounce rate of some horrible websites.

If people are leaving your site, you never get the chance to tell them your story. And one of the main purposes of a website is to tell your story

Think of your website like an autobiography. It’s your opportunity to let a potential customer get to know AND trust you. Two very important things.

The goal of a website is that within the first 10 seconds, a visitor should get a pretty good idea and understanding of who you are and what your business does from your homepage. Immediate connection and relationship built. That’s the power of a website.

On top of telling your story, websites are key for conversions. It’s all about telling your story to visitors and then calling them to action. Whether that desired action be calling you, filling out a form, downloading some lead magnet, scheduling time for a meeting, or making a purchase–a website helps facilitate and guide a person to take action. As a result, you’ll get more leads which is key for any business wanting to grow.

Something else someone will never see if they bounce, is your offering—another huge reason you need a website. Many people think that if they don’t sell products or services online then they don’t need a website. That is wrong. Even if you don’t do e-commerce, you still need a website to display what you offer to a potential buyer.

Why?

Because you can still add great value! Imagine if someone goes to your competitor’s site and just sees a few measly photos and some long paragraphs of text. Now imagine that same person comes to your website and sees case studies, testimonials, and the results you have gotten for your clients or customers. They’re going to be much more likely to visit your store than that competitor’s. All because of your website.

And if you are an E-commerce business then you definitely need an up-to-date, high-quality website for your business. 

Last, but not least, everything these days is about being connected online and using mobile devices. People are always on their phones tweeting, surfing the web, or searching for things they need. 

In fact, in 2019, “63.4% of the global mobile phone population accessed the internet from their mobile phone”. Meaning that if you are not findable or searchable on the Internet, people most likely don’t know about you. Or at least a lot less know about you than could if you had a website. And because people’s attention spans are so short, if your website doesn’t provide great content, a powerful message, and a clean design, they’ll move on.

To Sum it Up:

Every single business—no matter what you do—needs a website. 

You need a website to:

  • Effectively reach and grab the attention of your target audience
  • Tell your brand story
  • Facilitate conversions
  • Showcase your products/services
  • Be found by the modern wave of mobile and Internet users
